Stephen David Brooks is a multi-talented filmmaker with exceptional technical and creative skills. He began his career in Visual Effects, eventually rising to the position of Visual Effects Supervisor. Brooks' creative abilities led him to write and direct, with guidance from esteemed VFX legends John Dykstra and Richard Edlund.
Throughout his years in the Visual Effects Department of large-scale studio films, Brooks developed a passion for storytelling. He wrote and refined his original ideas during late nights and early mornings, amassing a treasure trove of stories. News of his diverse talents spread, and soon he was in high demand.
In 1993, Brooks was commissioned to adapt Stephen King's short story "The Mangler" into a screenplay, with King himself overseeing the project. Brooks also directed Second Unit and supervised the VFX for the film. Following its release, King officially added Brooks to his list of "Stephen King Approved" Screenwriters.
Brooks continued to direct second units and write screenplays for hire, eventually feeling the urge to direct his own feature films. He began with micro-budgeted projects that received acclaim on the festival circuit.
Stephen's films have been showcased at numerous prestigious festivals, including ECU The European Independent Film Festival, The Chelsea Film Festival, Worldfest Houston, and more. His 2016 film "Flytrap" was a unique blend of comedy and sci-fi, earning praise from Ain't It Cool News.
In addition to his film work, Brooks has also created a music video, "Deal Me In," which has garnered over 100,000 views on YouTube within its first two weeks and has been short-listed for a Grammy.
As of 2017, Brooks is in development for his feature film "The Director," which will showcase his storytelling and craftsmanship. Raised in Silicon Valley, Brooks has a deep understanding of human emotions and is passionate about incorporating cutting-edge technology into his artistic endeavors.
