Stephen Gordon Hendry MBE, a Scottish retired professional snooker player, and current commentator and pundit, was born on January 13, 1969. He is widely regarded as one of the most successful snooker players in history. Hendry turned professional in 1985 at the tender age of 16, and his rapid rise through the snooker world rankings saw him reach number four by the end of his third professional season.
In 1990, at the age of 21 years and 106 days, Hendry won his first World Snooker Championship, becoming the sport's youngest world champion, a record that still stands today. His impressive career saw him win seven world titles between 1990 and 1999, setting a new modern-era record that remained unbroken until Ronnie O'Sullivan equalled it in 2022.
Hendry's dominance of the sport was further highlighted by his nine seasons as world number one, the most by any player under the annual ranking system used until 2010. Throughout his illustrious career, Hendry has cemented his place as one of the greatest snooker players of all time.
