Steve is a multi-talented actor who has made a name for himself in the film, television, and theatre industries. His impressive resume boasts a wide range of roles, from his breakout performance in Spike Jonze's 'Where The Wild Things Are' to his critically acclaimed portrayal of Van Gogh in the Netflix series 'Clickbait'.
Steve's journey in the entertainment industry began when he graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts, where he won the Irene Mitchell Award for Outstanding Achievement for his portrayal of Shakespeare's 'Pericles' in a production directed by George Ogilvie. His first play was in Christos Tsiolkas' 'Viewing Blue Poles', performed at the iconic Belvoir St Theatre in Sydney after a successful Melbourne season.
His first television role was as 'Paolo' in the 'The Secret Life of Us', which went on to become one of the most watched Australian TV shows of all time. He then caught the attention of director Jonathan Liebesman, who cast him in the horror film 'Darkness Falls', which opened at number one at the US box office in January 2003.
Steve's interest in smaller and more personal films led to his award-winning performances in the internationally renowned short films 'Mona Lisa' and '296 Smith Street'. He next came to the attention of director Spike Jonze for his adaptation of the children's classic 'Where The Wild Things Are'.
In 2013, Steve won Best Actor at the St Kilda Film Festival for his titular role in the film 'Joey'. The following year, he received a Green Room Award for his performance as 'Lophakin' in the Melbourne Theatre Company's production of 'The Cherry Orchard', directed by Simon Stone.
In 2015, Steve received rave reviews for his leading role portrayal of tormented hit man Steven Ray in the breakout indie hit 'The Suicide Theory', which premiered on Netflix. This led to him being cast in the long-awaited final season of 'Prison Break', playing the rogue CIA assassin Van Gogh to great acclaim.
As well as his screen work, Steve continues to work in the theatre, returning to the stage in 2021 to take on the role of writer John D'Agata in the Australian premiere of the hit Broadway show 'The Lifespan Of A Fact'. Recent credits also include the global phenomenon 'Late Night With The Devil', playing Mitch in 'A Streetcar Named Desire' for Melbourne Theatre Company, and the upcoming revival of the Australian classic 'The Removalists' by David Williamson.
