Biography

Steve Norman is a multifaceted musician and member of the iconic 1980s New Wave Pop Group, Spandau Ballet, alongside Tony Hadley, John Keeble, Gary Kemp, and Martin Kemp. As a proficient multi-instrumentalist, Steve has played a variety of instruments, including guitar, bass, percussion, and his signature instrument, the saxophone, since the formation of Spandau Ballet.

Steve's musical journey began when Spandau Ballet reached the top five with their debut single "To Cut a Long Story Short" in 1980. Their innovative album "Journeys to Glory" was similar to bands like The Human League and Depeche Mode, yet original in its own right. Steve was part of the "Blitz Kids" or New Romantic Movement, a group of individuals who frequented certain nightclubs in London during the 1980s, including Boy George, David Jaymes, Marilyn, and Steve Strange, all of whom were outside of Spandau Ballet.

Spandau Ballet reached the height of their fame around 1983-1984, when they transitioned into more mainstream pop and scored a succession of hit singles, including "True", "Gold", and "Only When You Leave", which charted at number 1, 2, and 3, respectively. The albums "True", "Parade", and "The Singles Collection" also peaked at number 1, 2, and 3. Steve is renowned for his short but brilliant saxophone solos, particularly the solo break in the international hit "True".

The album "Through the Barricades", which shot into the UK top ten in 1986, showcases some of Steve's finest saxophone playing, particularly on the top ten single "Through the Barricades". The album was inspired by the death of a Spandau Ballet crew member, who was killed in Northern Ireland.

Steve has remained a member of Spandau Ballet and has also worked on numerous solo projects. He released the single "Once More" in 2009, which climbed to the number 7 position. Steve is also the co-writer of "Once More".
