Summer Selby is a multifaceted American performer, born on November 30th in Terre Haute, Indiana, and raised on Chicago's South Side. With a passion for pretending to be other people, Summer began her journey at the age of eight. Her mother, an educator, enrolled her in an esteemed after-school academy, where she studied modern dance, tap, modeling, and etiquette.
As she grew older, Summer pursued her interest in acting in high school and private liberal arts college. Although she gained stage crew experience, roles were limited for her demographic at the time. After graduation, Summer started a corporate career but continued to act in regional theaters in Chicago, Indianapolis, and Dallas.
Her breakthrough came when she was selected as a featured extra in the film "Problem Child" (1990). This experience sparked her commitment to a career in acting. Summer's subsequent roles included starring as Harriet Tubman in the Emmy-nominated educational film "The Quest for Freedom" (1992),which was broadcast on PBS stations throughout the country.
She went on to appear in the "Barney & Friends" (1992) series, "Wishbone's Dog Days of the West" (1998),and "Holiday in Your Heart" (1997) alongside LeAnn Rimes. Summer also landed the lead role in the film "Weekend of Our Discontent" (1993) and has worked alongside notable actors such as Nia Peeples, C. Thomas Howell, Patrick Duffy, Paul Adelstein, and Sarah Wayne Callies.
Summer's extensive credits also include national ad campaigns, print modeling for the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women campaign, and voice-over work. She has produced and hosted her own talk show, "Grown Folk" (2012),and appeared in various film and TV projects, including "ZeroZeroZero," "The First," and "The Resident."
