Her early life was marked by frequent moves across cities in the United States, where she relocated in 1978. Despite this nomadic upbringing, Sung Hi Lee was an academically inclined individual, often spending more time at the library than socializing at parties or sleepovers.
As a studious child and teenager, she prepared herself for a future in academia, attending Ohio State University on a scholarship for three years. However, her life took an unexpected turn during a visit to a local nightclub, where she participated in a pageant that drew attention to her.
The exposure led to a scholarship opportunity, and soon she began modeling. This marked the beginning of a journey that would take her to the pages of Playboy, where she made her debut. At the time, Sung Hi Lee was still a college student, and she was forced to put her academic pursuits on hold to focus on her modeling career in New York City.
