Susan Gallagher is an American actress and producer renowned for her extensive work in film and television. Born as the youngest of four children in Charlotte, North Carolina, to father Buddy Gallagher, a publisher, and mother June Craton, a jazz musician, Susan's father had always dreamed of becoming an actor. Buddy helped grow the family business, Good Will Publishers, in Gastonia, North Carolina, where Susan spent her childhood.
Susan began her studies at the Acting Studio and worked with numerous renowned teachers. After raising her family, she now dedicates a significant amount of time in New York City studying with the celebrated acting teacher Zina Jasper. Susan's work takes her across the United States, with a notable presence in New York City, where she played a series regular role as Val, a bisexual mother coming out to her lesbian daughter, in the 2018 series Queering.
Some of her recurring roles include Safe Harbor (1999),Treme (2010),The Inbetweeners (2012),and Cobra Kai (2018),where she played the character Lynn, a homeless woman. Susan is also recognized for her roles in Marvel's Loki (2021) opposite Tom Hiddleston, Strange Weather (2016) opposite Holly Hunter, Bloodline (2015) opposite Kyle Chandler, and Lifetime's The Christmas Contract (2018) opposite Hilarie Burton and Cheryl Ladd.
As a successful film actress, Susan's credits on the big screen include Walkaway Joe (2020) opposite David Strathairn, and Danny Madden's award-winning Beast Beast (2020) produced by Alec Baldwin. Her lead roles have included Picking Back Up (2018),where she portrayed an alcoholic and addict, and received a Best Actress Nomination from WIFF in Los Angeles. Other lead roles include Doorstep (2019) and Windblown (2019). In her most challenging role, Susan played a woman with early onset Alzheimer's in I'll Be Here for a While (2019).
As a producer, Susan founded Her Little Red Productions, Llc, in 2014. She has written and/or produced several award-winning short films, including Portrait of a Woman at Dawn (2019),written and directed by Cullen Douglas, which premiered in Los Angeles to rave reviews on the festival circuit. She also helped produce the award-winning documentary Marching Forward (2019).
Susan has been married to Jimbo Jahna since 1987 and has two children, Caroline and Bo, and their rescue dog, Lily.
