Susann Uplegger was born in 1971 and spent her childhood in Graal-Müritz, a charming coastal town near the Baltic Sea, which was then part of East Germany. Even as a young student, Uplegger was drawn to the world of art, and her passion for visual arts led her to study at the conservatory in Rostock, where she honed her painting skills in evening classes. At the tender age of 16, Uplegger made the bold decision to relocate to Berlin, where she completed her high school education and began to develop a keen interest in using her own body as a medium for artistic expression, rather than relying solely on paint and brush.
As her interest in acting grew, Uplegger enrolled in the prestigious Leipzig Drama School, a move that would ultimately lead her to the Conservatory in Liège, Belgium, and the esteemed State Theatre in Dresden. Throughout her studies, Uplegger began to make a name for herself in the world of television and cinema, landing small roles in various productions. However, she remained committed to the thrill of stage acting, taking on challenging roles such as Faust's Gretchen at the theater in Liège and Susanne in a staging of Beaumarchais' Le Mariage Du Figaro in its original language.
Uplegger's breakthrough role came when she played the lead in the 13-part comedy series R.O.S.T., co-starring the renowned German comedian Dieter Krebs. This was followed by starring roles in the highly successful series Der Fahnder (1994-1998),SK-Babies (1994-1998),and Wilde Engel (2000-2002),which catapulted her to fame and made her a household name in Germany.
