Susanne Rostock, a celebrated filmmaker, has spent an impressive 40 years crafting a stunning array of documentaries that captivate audiences with their unique blend of aural and visual storytelling. Her most recent directorial effort, Sing Your Song, which delves into the life of legendary artist and activist Harry Belafonte, premiered at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival and has continued to receive widespread acclaim, earning top honors in various festivals, a NAACP Image Award, and a Gracie for Outstanding Director.
Rostock's impressive body of work also includes her editing credits on numerous films that have garnered numerous accolades, including Emmy Awards, IDA Awards, Cable Ace Awards, a Gold Hugo, and recognition from multiple national and international festivals. Her collaborations with director Michael Apted have resulted in critically acclaimed films such as The Long Way Home, Incident At Oglala, Me & Isaac Newton, and Moving The Mountain.
Currently, Rostock is working on the documentary Between Starshine and Clay: The Hidden Diary of Diahann Carroll, which she is co-directing with Suzanne Kay and executive producing alongside Serena and Venus Williams.
Throughout her career, Rostock has been driven by a passion for storytelling and a commitment to crafting films that resonate with audiences. Her extensive education and training in anthropology and ethnographic filmmaking at Columbia University, under the guidance of the renowned Margaret Mead, have provided her with a strong foundation for her work. Rostock holds an MFA in Filmmaking from New York University and resides in New York City.
