Susan Elizabeth "Suzy" Amis was born on January 5, 1962, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and initially pursued a career as a Ford model before transitioning to acting in the 1980s.
Her film debut came in 1985 with the comedy film Fandango, alongside Kevin Costner, and she subsequently appeared in a string of roles, including Rocket Gibraltar in 1988, Where the Heart Is in 1990, Rich in Love in 1992, and The Ballad of Little Jo in 1993.
Amis continued to work in film throughout the 1990s, with notable appearances in Blown Away in 1994, The Usual Suspects in 1995, and Titanic in 1997, where she played the role of Lizzy Calvert, the granddaughter of Rose DeWitt Bukater.
In addition to her film work, Amis also appeared in television, starring alongside Tom Selleck in the Western series Last Stand at Saber River in 1997, and in the horror film Nadja in 1994.
After her last film appearance in the science fiction action film Judgment Day in 1999, Amis retired from acting.
In 2005, Amis founded Muse Elementary, a Reggio-inspired, independent, non-profit school in the Topanga, California area of Los Angeles, where she serves as the founder and executive director.
