Tadashi Nakamura, a renowned filmmaker, has made a lasting impact in the industry with his exceptional work. As the Director of the Watase Media Arts Center, a production company of the Japanese American National Museum, he has been instrumental in creating innovative and thought-provoking films.
Nakamura's remarkable career has been marked by numerous accolades, including being named CNN's "Young People Who Rock" in 2008 for being the youngest filmmaker at the Sundance Film Festival. With over 20 years of experience in filmmaking, his impressive body of work includes NOBUKO MIYAMOTO: A SONG IN MOVEMENT (2024),MELE MURALS (2016),JAKE SHIMABUKURO: LIFE ON FOUR STRINGS (2013),A SONG FOR OURSELVES (2009),and PILGRIMAGE (2006).
Currently, Nakamura is working on THIRD ACT, a poignant film about his pioneering filmmaker father, Robert A. Nakamura, and his courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease.
In addition to his filmmaking accomplishments, Nakamura holds a Master's degree in Social Documentation from UC Santa Cruz and a Bachelor's degree in Asian American Studies from UCLA. His outstanding work has earned him recognition, including being listed on the DOC NYC '40 Under 40' list in 2019 and being a Firelight Media Documentary Lab Fellow from 2020-2022. He was also a Sundance Asian American Fellow from 2022-2023 and is currently a mentor for the 2024 CAAM Fellowship and a recipient of the 2024 Rockwood Documentary Leaders Fellowship.
