Tahj Mowry was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA, and is renowned for his portrayal of the young prodigy in the popular Disney sitcom, Smart Guy, which premiered in 1997. His mother, Darlene Renee (Flowers),managed the siblings' early career, while his father, Timothy John Mowry, was a police officer and a veteran of the war. Tahj's mother is of Afro-Bahamian descent, and his father, who is Caucasian, has English ancestry.
Tahj began his acting career at the tender age of four, making his debut on the television series Who's the Boss? in 1990, playing a one-time guest star character named Greg. This was followed by several other notable roles on memorable television sitcoms, including Where I Live, Out All Night, Aladdin, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Full House, where he played the role of Teddy in 1990.
By the age of ten, Tahj had already accomplished numerous reprising guest and recurring roles. In 1994, he joined his twin sisters, Tia Mowry and Tamera Mowry-Housley, on their ABC hit-sitcom, Sister, Sister, playing the roles of Cousin Taj, Sammy, and T.J. Henderson. By the time he joined the Disney sitcom Smart Guy in 1997, Tahj was already an accomplished actor, having starred in movies, sitcoms, and even cartoon series.
The Mowry family, including Tahj's siblings, were all stars of hit-sitcoms on different television networks during the late 1990s. Smart Guy ran for three seasons and fifty-one episodes before being canceled due to a contract dispute. Following the show's cancellation, Tahj went on to star in several Disney movies, including Seventeen Again, which he co-starred with his twin sisters, as well as Hounded and The Poof Point.
In 2002, Tahj returned as a voice actor, starring in the successful animated show Kim Possible, playing the role of computer genius Wade Load. His character on Kim Possible was inspired by the character he played on Smart Guy. Several Kim Possible movies were released during the syndication of the series, all of which Tahj starred in. The Kim Possible series and franchise ended in 2007, after winning several prestigious awards.
Tahj also starred in a movie with rapper/actor/comedian Ice Cube, called Are We Done Yet?, in 2007, playing the role of Danny Pulu. In the late 2000s, Tahj signed onto a label and began to pursue a singing career, citing that he wanted to do more than just act and explore his other passions. Tahj Mowry will be forever remembered as a versatile entertainer and one of many beloved child stars.
