Taurean Blacque, a renowned stage actor of his time, is most famously known for his portrayal of "Detective Sgt. Neal Washington" on the iconic police drama Hill Street Blues, which aired from 1981. A long-standing resident of Atlanta, Georgia, Blacque was a fixture at the Alliance Theatre of Atlanta, where he appeared in various productions.
One of his most notable roles was in the James Baldwin play "The Amen Corner", where he shared the stage with Carol Mitchell-Leon, Elizabeth Omilami, and Crystal Fox. Another notable performance was as "Shealy" in August Wilson's "Jitney", alongside John Lawhorn, John Beasley, Anthony Chisholm, and Charles Canada. Both productions were directed by Kenny Leon, who was the Artistic Director at the Alliance Theatre at the time.
Beyond his impressive stage career, Blacque was also deeply involved in the community. In the late 1980s, he adopted nine children, bringing his family to a total of two adult biological sons. As a spiritual individual, Blacque drew inspiration from his astrological sign of "Taurus", adopting the name "Taurean" as a result. He also took the surname "Blacque" as a reflection of his race.
