Terence Blanchard, a globally acclaimed trumpeter, composer, and band leader, has the distinction of being the most prolific jazz musician to have ever composed for motion pictures.
Born and raised in the vibrant city of New Orleans, Blanchard's musical journey began at the renowned New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts, where he had the privilege of studying under the tutelage of the Marsalis brothers.
In 1980, he was awarded a scholarship to Rutgers University, which marked the beginning of his professional music career. He quickly made a name for himself by performing with the Lionel Hampton Orchestra, and just two years later, he succeeded Wynton Marsalis in the esteemed Jazz Messengers.
Blanchard's impressive resume also includes the formation of his own influential groups, which have left a lasting impact on the jazz world.
His foray into film scoring began with Spike Lee's projects, including the critically acclaimed "Mo Better Blues", in which he provided the trumpet sounds for Denzel Washington.
Today, Blanchard resides in his hometown of New Orleans with his loving wife, Robin, and their four children.
