Her family resided in the quaint suburb of Des Plaines, Illinois, where she was the youngest of three children, with two older brothers to look up to. Growing up, Terri was heavily influenced by her father's involvement in the drag-racing business, as he operated several drag strips across the Midwest. As a result, Terri took on the responsibility of running the trophy booth and presenting trophies to the winners of these thrilling events.
In 1975, Terri's family relocated to the sunny city of Scottsdale, Arizona. She went on to graduate from Horizon High School in Scottsdale in 1983, and her exceptional looks earned her a spot in the High School Senior Class Calender. Her Playboy career began in 1988 when she was featured as the Playmate of the Month in the July issue, and she later graced the covers of the March and October issues of the same year.
