Tim Greene is a renowned South African filmmaker, celebrated for his outstanding work as a writer, director, and showrunner in both feature films and television shows. He is particularly recognized for his accomplishments on the feature films "Boy Called Twist" (2004) and "Skeem" (2011),as well as his leadership on numerous award-winning television series.
Based in Cape Town, Tim collaborates with international clients, having recently worked with MTV Staying Alive in London, Discovery Learning Alliance in Washington, D.C., and AMC International in Los Angeles. As the lead South African creative on the upcoming rhino-poaching political drama "Silverbird," currently in development, Tim brings his expertise to the project.
Throughout his career, Tim has received numerous accolades, including two SAFTA Golden Horn awards for Best Director: TV Drama for "Hard Copy" in 2006 and Best Screenplay for "Skeem" in 2011. His work on "Skeem" also earned him awards for Best Comedy Screenplay and Best Comedy at the Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards in 2013, as well as the prestigious Audience Choice Award at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival in 2011.
In addition to his feature film work, Tim has co-written the feature film "Lucky Specials" (2017) for Discovery Learning Alliance and is currently developing the ninth season of MTV Shuga with MTV Staying Alive Foundation.
Tim's television credits in South Africa include award-winning shows such as "Umlilo," "Those Who Can't," "Class Act," "Swartwater," three seasons of "Hard Copy," and "Intersexions," which won a Peabody Award in 2011. As Creative Director at Quizzical Pictures, one of South Africa's leading TV drama production companies, Tim was showrunner on MTV Shuga: Down South for MTV Networks Africa in 2017.
Tim's first feature film, "Boy Called Twist," was a groundbreaking crowd-funded project based on Charles Dickens' classic novel Oliver Twist. The film premiered at Cannes' Tous Les Cinemas Du Monde and won Best Feature at the Apollo Film Festival in 2005. His upcoming feature film, "Golgotha," is currently in development with Light and Dark Films in Los Angeles, slated for production in the fall of 2020.
