Biography

Toby Emmerich serves as the Chairman of Warner Bros. Pictures Group, overseeing the studio's global theatrical production, marketing, and distribution operations, as well as the marketing and distribution activities of Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.

Under his leadership, Warner Bros. Pictures Group has achieved significant success, releasing the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, "Joker," which earned $1.08 billion at the global box office and won two Academy Awards. Additionally, the studio released the successful horror sequel "IT Chapter Two."

Emmerich was named President and Chief Content Officer of the Pictures Group in 2017 and promoted to Chairman a year later. During his tenure, WBPG had its most successful year ever in 2018, with a global box office of $5.57 billion, fueled by a diverse lineup of hit films.

Prior to his current role, Emmerich served as President and Chief Content Officer, Warner Bros. Pictures Group. Before that, he was President and Chief Operating Officer of New Line Cinema for eight years, where he oversaw the development, production, and financial operations of the company.

Under Emmerich's leadership, New Line released a diverse range of films, including the Academy Award-winning "The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King," the romantic favorite "The Notebook," and the horror classics "The Conjuring" and "The Nun," which have become one of the most successful horror franchises of all time.

Emmerich also held the position of President of Production and served as a screenwriter and producer, writing and producing the sleeper hit "Frequency." He joined the company in 1992 as a dual development and music executive and has since held various positions, including President of Music and A&R representative at Atlantic Records.

In January 2019, Emmerich was honored with the Producers Guild of America's Milestone Award, recognizing his historic contributions to the entertainment industry.

Toby Emmerich attended The Calhoun School and Wesleyan University, graduating Phi Beta Kappa in 1985, with honors in English and concentrations in Classics and Film. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife and children.
