Toby Haynes is currently working on the un-named Star Wars: Cassian Andor series for Disney+, a project that marks his latest endeavor in the world of television.
Prior to this, Haynes received a BAFTA nomination in 2020 for his work on Brexit: The Uncivil War, a television film that was also nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Television Movie in 2019. The film was written by James Graham and starred Benedict Cumberbatch.
In 2019, Haynes' Black Mirror episode USS Callister received seven Emmy nominations and went on to win four, including the award for Outstanding Television Movie. Additionally, Haynes won a Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation (Short Form) for his work on the acclaimed Doctor Who season five finale, The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang.
Haynes has also had a successful career directing and executive producing television series. He directed and executive produced all seven episodes of Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell for Cuba Pictures and BBC ONE, a project that received four BAFTA nominations and won two.
Haynes' work on the second series of Sherlock, specifically the episode "The Reichenbach Fall", sparked a media frenzy around the apparent death of the character Sherlock Holmes. The episode received widespread critical acclaim, with Andrew Billen of The Times writing that it "transcended its genre" and should be considered alongside the highest achievements in British television drama.
In addition to his work on Sherlock, Haynes has also opened several hit series for the BBC, including The Musketeers, Being Human, and the third series finale of Wallander: An Event in Autumn, which starred Kenneth Branagh.
