Tomáš Matonoha's journey in the world of entertainment began after completing his secondary education, where he initially struggled to gain admission to law school, ultimately graduating from the Brno Academy of Performing Arts (JAMU). In 1994, he joined the Brno-based HaDivadlo, where he played a wide range of roles during his tenure, including the lead in Faust, Veršinin in Three Sisters, one of the ex-managers in Top Dogs, and his performance in Oedipus Rex, a notable production directed by J. A. Pitínský.
In addition to his work at his home theater, Matonoha also performed at the Brno-based Divadlo v 7 a půl, where audiences could see him in productions such as Oči bludných hvězd, Repetent, or Baummel.
Aside from his work in theater, Matonoha found his way into film, making his debut in 1995 in a small role in the comedy Byl jednou jeden polda, directed by Jaroslav Soukup. He gained recognition through films such as Divoké včely (2001) and Mistři (2004),directed by Bohdan Sláma and Marek Najbrt, respectively. He also appeared in films such as Vyhnání z ráje Věry Chytilové (2000),Hrubeš a Mareš jsou kamarádi do deště (2005),Muž, kterého chtějí (2004),Gympl (2007),Bestiář Ireny Pavláskové (2006),and Bobule (2007),directed by Vladimír Morávek, Irena Pavlásková, Tomáš Vorel, Marek Najbrt, and Tomáš Bařina, respectively.
Television audiences know him primarily from his work in television series, such as Rodinná pouta, Bazén, To nevymyslíš, Ulice, Trapasy, and Comeback (2008).
Some of his television projects, particularly the alternative comedy show Komediograf, which originated from a successful stage production by Matonoha and his colleague Pavel Liška at HaDivadlo and other Brno and Prague theaters, are associated with the concept of independent scenes. He also participates in another original acting project - comedic performances of the stand-up type, which was recorded by HBO under the title Na stojáka.
Tomáš Matonoha is married to actress Lucie Benešová, and they have four children together.
