Anthony Michael Mortimer is a British singer, songwriter, and record producer born on October 21, 1970, in London. He was a member of the popular 1990s boy band East 17, which was active from 1991 to 1997 and sold over 20 million records worldwide.
As a primary songwriter for East 17, Mortimer penned the band's only number-one single, "Stay Another Day." During his time with the group, he also contributed to seven top ten singles and four hit albums on the UK Singles Chart and UK Albums Chart, respectively, between 1992 and 1997.
Following the disbandment of East 17 in 1997, Mortimer turned to songwriting and went on to write the charity single "The Gift of Christmas" for the Childliners, featuring various popular chart acts of the time.
In 2010, East 17 re-formed as a three-piece group without former lead singer Brian Harvey, and Mortimer took on the role of lead vocalist. The group released the single "Secret of My Life" from the projected album Recharged but ultimately scrapped the album and released Dark Light in 2012, featuring Mortimer as the lead vocalist.
Mortimer has also worked as a record producer since 1997, from his studio in Essex, and has recorded his own songs, including the single "N Toxyc 8." He has managed girl group Urban Angel, whose members included Roxanne Pallett, who wrote some of the group's songs.
In addition to his music career, Mortimer has appeared on various television shows, including Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Winter Wipeout, and The Wright Stuff. He released his debut solo album Songs from the Suitcase in June 2013 and departed from East 17 in early 2014 to focus on his solo career.
In December 2019, Mortimer released a re-recorded version of "Stay Another Day" with the Waltham Forest Youth Choir to raise money for mental health charity CALM.
