Tony Pemberton, a talented film director, was born in Toledo, Ohio in 1966. He embarked on his academic journey by graduating from the State University of New York at Purchase with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in film in 1990. Pemberton's passion for filmmaking led him to further his education at the Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts: Bard College, where he earned a Master of Fine Arts in film in 1993.
Pemberton's remarkable talent was recognized by Variety, which listed him as One of Ten Directors to Watch in 2000. His films have been showcased at prestigious institutions, including The Anthology Film Archives, the Kino Museum in Moscow, Russia, The Whitney American Museum, and the Clemens Center for the Performing Arts in Elmira, NY. His work has also been featured in various festivals across America and Europe.
Throughout his career, Pemberton has received funding from esteemed organizations, such as The Princess Grace Foundation, the Jerome Foundation, Arts Matters, and Arts Link, for his past and future projects. His fascination with foreign films as a genre led him to dream of creating one of these films for himself. This aspiration culminated in the creation of Beyond the Ocean (2000).
To bring his vision to life, Pemberton relocated to Russia and now splits his time between there and New York, with plans to develop more international projects.
