The son of former AWA President, Blanchard embarked on his journey in the wrestling business at the tender age of 10, selling peanuts at arenas and distributing flyers, eventually transitioning to the ring crew, where he played a crucial role in setting up matches. As a high school student, he excelled in football, showcasing his athleticism and coordination.
Subsequently, Blanchard attended West Texas State University, where he was the starting quarterback for three consecutive years, sharing the gridiron with fellow wrestlers Tito Santana and Ted DiBiase. Following his collegiate career, he joined forces with Tito Santana in Florida Championship Wrestling, marking the beginning of his wrestling career.
Blanchard's wrestling style was heavily influenced by legendary figures such as Harley Race, Terry Funk, Dory Funk Jr., and Ric Flair, who paved the way for his success in the ring. Throughout his career, he wrestled predominantly in the NWA, where he formed the Four Horsemen group with Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, and Ole Anderson, engaging in memorable feuds with Dusty Rhodes, Magnum T.A., and Ricky Steamboat.
Blanchard's impressive singles career saw him claim the United States Title and the World Television Championship, culminating in a classic battle with Magnum T.A. in a "I Quit" cage match at Starrcade '85.
He subsequently began teaming with Arn Anderson, capturing the NWA Tag Team Championship from the Rock 'n Roll Express. After losing their title to the Midnight Express, Blanchard and Anderson defected to the WWF, where they were managed by Bobby "The Brain" Heenan, adopting the moniker the Brain Busters. The duo won the WWF Tag Team Titles from Demolition on a live Saturday Night's Main Event, only to relinquish them back to Demolition. They maintained a long-standing feud with the Rockers, comprising Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty.
Blanchard's journey took a dramatic turn when he sought to rejoin the NWA with Arn Anderson to reform the Four Horsemen, but was met with rejection. This setback led to a profound transformation, as he gave his life to Christ, redirecting his focus towards active ministry, dedicating himself to prison outreach and addiction recovery.
