Frederick Tyrone Power, a renowned thespian, was born in London, England, to a family of esteemed performers. His father, Harold Littledale Power, was a concert pianist, while his mother, Ethel Lavenu, was a stage actress. Moreover, his grandfather, Tyrone Power, was a celebrated Irish actor, active during the early 19th century.
Frederick's early education took place at Dulwich College, a prestigious institution in London. Later, his family relocated to the United States, and he was sent to Florida to work as a citrus farmer. However, he soon discovered that farming was not his calling, and he yearned to pursue a career in acting.
Consequently, Frederick abandoned the citrus ranch and made his stage debut in 'The Private Secretary' in 1886. He subsequently embarked on a series of theatrical tours across the United States, Britain, and Australia, earning widespread acclaim as a matinee idol. In an effort to distinguish himself from his grandfather, he adopted the stage names Tyrone Power II and Tyrone Power the Younger.
Throughout his illustrious career, Frederick delivered outstanding performances, including his portrayal of Brutus in 'Julius Caesar' in 1912. He continued to excel in various roles, eventually transitioning to film in 1914. His cinematic career spanned several decades, during which he played leading roles and, later, often took on villainous character parts.
Tragically, Frederick's life was cut short when he suffered a massive heart attack at his home in 1931, while filming 'The Miracle Man'. He passed away in the arms of his 17-year-old son, Tyrone Power Jr., who was born Tyrone Edmund Power Jr.
