Born in the year nineteen hundred and forty-three, Frank Uwe Laysiepen, professionally known by his stage name Ulay, is a multifaceted artist, actor, and photographer who has left an indelible mark on the art world. At present, Ulay calls two cities his home, residing in both Amsterdam, the vibrant capital of Holland, and Ljubljana, the charming capital of Slovenia. It is Ulay's innovative use of Polaroid photography that has been instrumental in garnering him international recognition, a distinction he has enjoyed since the late 1960s.
Ulay's artistic repertoire extends far beyond the realm of photography, as he has also established himself as a pioneering performance artist, embarking on a remarkable series of innovative and groundbreaking collaborations with the illustrious Marina Abramovic, a partnership that spanned an impressive twelve-year period from 1976 to 1988.
