Vera Cherny, born Vera Chernysheva, had a nomadic childhood due to her father's profession, with the family relocating multiple times. One of the most memorable moves was when Vera was just two months old, and her parents had to carry her onto a military truck in an open suitcase, rather than a traditional bassinet.
At the tender age of three, Vera began her performing journey at a local ballet school in Altengrabow, East Germany. As she grew older, she continued to hone her craft, eventually immigrating to the United States on her own at the age of 16. Vera pursued her undergraduate and graduate studies in the US, simultaneously acting in regional theatre productions. She later graduated with an M.F.A. in Acting from the esteemed Actors Studio Drama School in New York City.
Vera has built a reputable acting career, with recurring guest star credits on several notable TV shows, including "The Americans" on FX, "StartUp" on Sony/Crackle, "Counterpart" on Starz, "Queen of the South" on USA, and "For All Mankind" on Sony/Apple TV+. Her other notable credits include "Grey's Anatomy" on ABC and "Magnum P.I." on CBS.
In addition to her acting work, Vera has also ventured into production. In 2020, she wrote and produced an LGBTQ short film titled "Once Was". The film boasts an impressive 95% female and non-binary behind-the-camera team. The film premiered at the prestigious Mill Valley Film Festival in 2023.
