Biography

Véra Gibson-Amado, professionally known as Véra Clouzot, was a multifaceted individual who embodied the essence of Brazilian-French elegance and talent.

As fate would have it, Véra's life took a dramatic turn in 1941, when she met French actor Léo Lapara, a member of the esteemed theater company of Louis Jouvet, who was touring in Brazil during World War II. Véra's life was forever changed as she joined the company's South American tour, which lasted nearly four years, and eventually married Lapara.

Following World War II, Véra settled in the City of Light, Paris, where she would embark on a new chapter in her life. It was in 1947 that Lapara appeared in the film "Jenny Lamour" directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot, marking the beginning of a serendipitous encounter that would alter the course of Véra's life. On the set, Véra met Henri-Georges Clouzot, and it was said that their meeting was akin to a thunderbolt, or "coup de foudre", as the French would say, a love at first sight. Clouzot, impressed by Véra's charm and talent, hired her as the script girl for his next film, "Miquette" in 1950.

Tragedy struck when Véra divorced Lapara and married Henri-Georges Clouzot in the same year. Her husband would go on to direct her in her first film, the 1953 thriller "The Wages of Fear", in which she co-starred alongside the renowned Charles Vanel and Yves Montand. Véra's acting career was short-lived but illustrious, with her most notable performance being in the 1955 thriller "Diabolique", a film that would cement her place in cinematic history.

Véra Clouzot's life was cut tragically short when she died suddenly of a heart attack in 1960, just 15 days shy of her 47th birthday, leaving behind a legacy of beauty, talent, and a cinematic heritage that continues to captivate audiences to this day.
