At the tender age of fourteen, Vic Damone embarked on his professional journey, working as an usher at the iconic NYC Paramount Theatre. His father, an electrician with a passion for playing the guitar, and his mother, a piano teacher, instilled in him a love for music from a young age. Damone's educational background began at PS 163, where he sang in the St. Finbar's choir, and later attended the Alexander Hamilton Vocational High School and Lafayette High School in Brooklyn. However, his academic pursuits were cut short when he left school at the age of sixteen to support his family.
Despite this setback, Damone returned to Lafayette High School and graduated in 1997. His early singing career took off when he won first prize in an Arthur Godfrey talent scouts contest in 1945. His first night club appearance was set up by the legendary comedian Milton Berle at the LAMartinique Club. The following year, Damone was drafted and served in the army from 1951 to 1953.
After his military service, Damone married actress Pier Angeli, with whom he later divorced. He then married actress Becky Ann Jones from 1974 to 1982, followed by a marriage to Diahann Carroll from 1987 to 1996. In 1998, Damone tied the knot with Rena Rowan, a fashion designer and co-founder of Jones New York. In addition to his personal life, Damone also pursued higher education, receiving a certificate of advanced study from Philadelphia University in 1999.
