Biography

Vicente's earliest memories are etched in the breathtaking scenery of Utuado, Puerto Rico, where he first drew breath in 1951, amidst the majestic mountains that would later influence his artistic expression. However, his family's decision to relocate to the bustling metropolis of New York would ultimately shape the formative years of his life.

Vicente embarked on a professional journey following the completion of his academic pursuits, transversing the eastern seaboard to Philadelphia, where he secured a role with ABC television, dedicating a significant period of five years to the creation of public affairs programming specifically catering to the Hispanic community.

As the years progressed, Vicente's professional trajectory took a turn, as he returned to his ancestral homeland, Puerto Rico, in 1983.

Vicente's multifaceted career in the film industry was marked by a dual focus on documentary production and behind-the-scenes work, as he collaborated on a multitude of documentaries that delved into the fascinating historical and cultural heritage of Puerto Rico during the 1980s and 1990s.

Throughout this period, Vicente demonstrated his versatility and adaptability by taking on various roles within the film industry, serving as an assistant director on a staggering 15 or more films produced in both Puerto Rico and the United States.

In the year 2003, a significant milestone was reached in the career of Vicente, as he made his directorial debut with the feature film Cayo, thereby providing him with the unique opportunity to collaborate with some of the most illustrious and respected theater actors in Puerto Rico, as well as the renowned Hollywood actress Roslyn Sanchez.

Following this auspicious beginning, Vicente went on to direct a multitude of films that garnered widespread critical acclaim and numerous awards, including the notable Hay Hombres para Todas, which was released in 2008, Il Viaggio: Una DocuMedia Surrealista, which premiered in 2011, and El Rey del Bar, which was showcased in 2012.

Vicente's impressive portfolio extends far beyond his work in feature films, as he has also had the opportunity to direct a diverse array of documentaries and stage productions that showcase his versatility and artistic range.

One notable example of his documentary work is Voces Contra el Poder, the Spanish language adaptation of Ariel Dorfman's acclaimed play Speak Truth to Power. This powerful production highlights the importance of speaking out against oppression and fighting for human rights.

In addition to his documentary work, Vicente has also directed several stage productions that have been inspired by the writings of renowned poets. One such production is Julia Íntima, a theatrical piece that draws heavily from the works of the celebrated Puerto Rican poet Julia de Burgos. This production offers a unique and intimate glimpse into the life and work of this important literary figure.

Vicente, a renowned individual, devoted a significant portion of his career to sharing his expertise with others. From 2006 to 2013, he co-taught Actuando para la Cámara, a highly acclaimed workshop focused on film acting techniques, alongside the accomplished actress and professor, Idalia Pérez Garay.

Currently, Vicente is engaged in the post-production phase of two feature-length documentaries that are sure to captivate audiences worldwide. The first documentary, La Verdadera Historia de Teatro del Sesenta, delves into the rich history of Puerto Rico's oldest theater company, offering a unique glimpse into the cultural heritage of the region.

The second documentary, El Sueño de Andy, is a biographical masterpiece that chronicles the life and times of the legendary singer, Andy Montañez. This poignant and insightful documentary is sure to resonate with fans of Montañez and anyone interested in the world of music and the arts.
