Virgil Hunter

Virgil Hunter's journey as a trainer began amidst a backdrop of social work, as he dedicated his time to mentoring troubled youths within the probations department. This experience instilled in him a deep conviction that he possessed the ability to cultivate a skilled fighter. Subsequently, Hunter embarked on an apprenticeship in Oakland, California, where he honed his craft under the guidance of several esteemed trainers, including the likes of Bobby Warren, Jimmie Simmons, Charlie Smith, and Tiger Floyd. Over the years, Hunter developed a network of trainers with whom he closely associates, a fraternity that includes notable figures such as Barry Hunter (no relation),Leon Lawson, Tony Morrison, Kevin Cunningham, and Nazim Richardson. Notably, Hunter's tutelage began early on, as he started training the future Olympic gold medal winner Andre Ward when Ward was just nine years old.
