Lawrence Vonetta McGee, a talented actress, initially gained recognition in the early 1970s with her roles in Melinda (1972) and Hammer (1972). Her breakthrough performance, however, came when she played the love interest of the vampire in the cult classic Blacula (1972). This was followed by a starring role alongside her then-boyfriend Max Julien in the 1974 film Thomasine & Bushrod.
In the late 1970s, McGee continued to impress audiences with her portrayal of a character in the 1977 film Brothers, which starred Bernie Casey and Ron O'Neal. Her extensive filmography also includes notable roles in Repo Man (1984) and To Sleep with Anger (1990).
