Walter Röhrl, a renowned German rally driver, was born on March 7, 1947, in Regensburg. Nicknamed "Der Lange" or "The Long One," he is a celebrated figure in the world of motorsport.
Röhrl's professional driving career spanned an impressive 14 years, from 1973 to 1987. During this period, he won two FIA World Rally Drivers' Championships, in 1980 and 1982, as well as the 1974 European Rally Championship. In addition to his rallying exploits, Röhrl also competed in circuit racing events.
In 1988, Röhrl joined Audi, where he primarily focused on development work until his retirement from professional racing in 1992. His final competitive outing was in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (DTM).
