Wayne Groom is the principal of Australian International Pictures Pty Ltd, an independent film production company. He is a multifaceted professional, serving as Producer/Writer/Director for various feature films and television documentaries.
Groom's notable works include the feature film Maslin Beach (1996),the telemovie Summer of Love (2001),and the television documentaries Tomorrow's Sun (1999) and Running on Sunshine (2004). These projects showcase his versatility and creativity in the film industry.
Based in Adelaide, South Australia, Groom graduated from the University of Adelaide in 1972 with a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil). He went on to co-win the prestigious Parson's Prize from the Institute of Engineers.
Groom entered the film industry in 1979 and formed his own production company soon after. He financed and produced South Australia's first independent feature film, Centrespread, in conjunction with Greg Lynch Film Distributors. This film was one of the first Australian films shot on Super 16.
Throughout his career, Groom has produced a range of feature films and television dramas, including The Dreaming, Strangers, Pals, and Point of Departure.
In 1991 and 1992, Groom studied comedy and screenwriting at UCLA Ext in Los Angeles, where he also took acting classes with renowned dramatist Jeff Corey.
Maslin Beach, Groom's first feature film as writer and director, gained cult status in Australia after being released on video and is now available on DVD in the USA. The New York Times praised it as a "tender romantic comedy."
Groom's subsequent projects include the television documentary Tomorrow's Sun, which was screened on the Ten Network in Australia and Discovery Channel Asia-Pacific, and the moody art film Summer of Love, which was the first Australian telemovie shot on High Definition.
His most recent project, Running on Sunshine, is an international television documentary that was completed in 2004 with investment from the Film Finance Corporation, the South Australian Film Corporation, Australian Major Events, and the Seven Network.
