Whitney Ann Cummings is a multifaceted American artist, encompassing the realms of comedy, acting, writing, directing, producing, and podcasting. Born in Washington, D.C., Cummings embarked on a comedy career in Los Angeles after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, where she initially studied to become a journalist.
Following her stand-up debut in 2004, Cummings secured regular appearances as a round-table guest on Chelsea Lately, establishing herself as a prominent figure in the comedy world. Subsequently, she created, produced, and starred in the NBC sitcom Whitney, where she portrayed a semi-fictionalized version of herself. The series ran for two seasons before being canceled in 2013.
Simultaneously, Cummings co-created the CBS sitcom 2 Broke Girls, which premiered in 2011 and concluded in 2017. In the realm of stand-up comedy, Cummings released her first hour-long special, Money Shot, on Comedy Central in 2010. This was followed by her second special, I Love You, in 2014, and her third, I'm Your Girlfriend, on HBO in 2016, which was later released as an audio streaming album in 2021.
In addition to her stand-up endeavors, Cummings served as a producer and writer for the ABC revival of Roseanne, beginning in 2018. However, she left the project prior to its cancellation. Cummings's fourth stand-up special, Can I Touch It?, premiered on Netflix in July 2019.
