William Matthew Sierra, better known by his ring name Bill Alfonso, is a former American professional wrestling referee and manager. He gained widespread recognition in Extreme Championship Wrestling during the mid-to-late 1990s.
Alfonso's wrestling career began in May 1995, when he made his debut in Extreme Championship Wrestling as a "trouble-shooting referee". Introduced by Shane Douglas, he enforced the rules strictly, often disqualifying wrestlers for using steel chairs as weapons, which led to a feud with ECW founder Tod Gordon.
Following the closure of ECW, Alfonso appeared in various independent promotions, including Xtreme Pro Wrestling, Elite Wrestling Entertainment, Squared Circle Wrestling, and Pro Wrestling Unplugged. He worked as a referee and manager in these promotions, managing wrestlers in some of them.
In May 2007, Alfonso joined Women's Extreme Wrestling, where he serves as a manager and commissioner. He also made an appearance in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling's ECW reunion show, Hardcore Justice, managing Rob Van Dam and Sabu during their match against each other.
On the following edition of TNA Impact!, the ECW alumni, known as Extreme, Version 2.0 (EV 2.0),were attacked by A.J. Styles, Kazarian, Robert Roode, James Storm, Douglas Williams, and Matt Morgan of Ric Flair's Fourtune stable, who believed they didn't deserve to be in TNA.
In a separate incident, Alfonso was sued by fellow manager Missy Hyatt in October 2002, who accused him of damaging her Porsche and was awarded $500.
Alfonso's family has a strong connection to professional wrestling. His step-brother, former Olympian Bob Roop, spent many years as a wrestler, fighting all over the world under various names and gimmicks. His cousin, David Sierra, also had a long career in the ring, including a stint in WCW as Fidel Sierra, where he is remembered for a controversial feud with Hacksaw Jim Duggan.
Contrary to popular belief, Alfonso is not related to Mike Awesome, with whom he spent time in ECW. The confusion arose from Awesome's real surname being Alfonso and his wrestling in Japan as The Gladiator, a name also used by Alfonso's real brother, Bob Roop.
