Person Biography:
Wren T. Brown is a fourth-generation Angeleno and a fourth-generation theatrical, born and raised in Los Angeles. He is descended from a long line of talented performers, including his father, jazz trumpeter Troy Brown Jr., his paternal grandmother, Bertha McElroy, and his paternal grandfather, actor-comedian Troy Brown Sr. His maternal grandmother, Ruth Givens, was a torch singer and dancer, and his maternal grandfather, Lee Young Sr., was the first black staff musician in Hollywood.
Brown is a versatile actor with a deep melodious voice, who has been active in the entertainment industry for over four decades. He has appeared in numerous films and television shows, including "Beyond the Lights," "Waiting to Exhale," "Heart and Souls," "Under Siege 2: Dark Territory," "The Dinner," "Hollywood Shuffle," "Biker Boyz," "The Importance of Being Earnest," "Midnight Clear," and David Mamet's "Edmond."
In addition to his acting career, Brown has also worked as a producer and director. He made his directorial debut with the audiobook "Inspired By... The Bible Experience," which won the 2007 Audie Award for Audiobook of the Year. He has also directed several stage productions, including "Fences" at the Lone Tree Arts Center and "Lady Day at The Emerson Bar & Grill" at the International City Theatre.
Brown is the founder and producing artistic director of Ebony Repertory Theatre (ERT),the first African-American professional Equity theatre company in Los Angeles history. Under his leadership, ERT has produced numerous award-winning productions, including "Two Trains Running," "Crowns," "A Raisin In the Sun," "Fraternity," "Robeson," "The Gospel at Colonus," and "Five Guys Named Moe."
Brown has also been involved in various voice-over and spoken-word projects, including narrating The History Channel's "U.S.S. Constellation: Battling For Freedom" and "E! True Hollywood Story" on the life of Diana Ross. He has also voiced Disney's Br'er Rabbit for various projects and can currently be heard narrating Laurence Fishburne's "Bronzeville," a 1940s-era Chicago podcast.
In his personal life, Brown is a motivational lecturer and has conducted a six-week entertainment industry seminar through the ERT Performance Lab entitled, "Purpose, Passion & Possibility." He has also served on the boards of several organizations, including Antioch University, Los Angeles, the Screen Actors Guild, the Friends of Washington Preparatory High School, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, and the Charles R. Drew University.
