Wyclef Jean is a Haitian-born multi-talented artist, renowned for his exceptional skills as a rapper, singer-songwriter, musician, and actor.
Initially, Jean gained widespread recognition as a vital member of the influential New Jersey-based hip-hop group, the Fugees. Throughout his illustrious career, he has garnered an impressive three Grammy Awards for his remarkable musical contributions.
On August 5, 2010, Jean announced his candidacy for the 2010 Haitian presidential election. However, the Electoral Commission subsequently ruled him ineligible to participate in the election, citing a constitutional requirement that he had not fulfilled, namely, having resided in Haiti for at least five years prior to the election.
In the aftermath of the devastating 2010 Haiti earthquake, Jean's humanitarian efforts were widely publicized in both Haiti and the United States. He channeled his relief efforts through his charitable organization, Yéle Haiti.
In 2012, Jean published his captivating memoir, Purpose: An Immigrant's Story. Later, in 2014, he was selected, along with Carlos Santana, Avicii, and Alexandre Pires, to perform at the closing ceremony of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Their collaborative single, "Dar um Jeito (We Will Find a Way)", the official World Cup anthem, was released on April 29, 2014.
