Yumiko Cheng Hei-Yi, born Cheng Lit-King, embarked on her remarkable journey on September 6, 1981, in Shanghai. At the tender age of 11, she migrated with her family to Hong Kong, marking the beginning of her transformative experience.
As she entered her teenage years, Yumiko's passion for singing blossomed, and she began taking singing lessons. The talented young artist's big break came when she was 13, as she collaborated with powerhouse singer Elisa Chan.
Yumiko's father, who worked in the movie and advertising industries, often brought her onto movie sets, providing her with invaluable exposure to the entertainment world. She made her acting debut in Dragon Inn (1992),playing the role of a daughter on the run from Donnie Yen's character, and reportedly appeared in Centre Stage (1992) as well.
However, Yumiko's official entry into the entertainment industry did not occur until she caught the attention of executives from Emperor Entertainment Group while performing at the New Talent Competition. In 2000, she signed with the record company, setting the stage for her future success.
In 2002, Yumiko was paired with two other girls to form the group 3T, releasing one album before she decided to pursue a solo career as a singer. Her first EP, 'Yumiko The Debut', was released in November 2002, followed by her second EP, 'Dance Dance Dance', in June 2003.
Yumiko's first album, One2Three, was released in November 2003, and she went on to release her second album, 'Perfect Date', which, although not as successful, laid the groundwork for her future endeavors. In mid-August 2005, she released her third album, 'Yumiko's Space', which featured the popular hit single 'Arabian Market', signaling her triumphant comeback.
In April 2006, Yumiko released her fourth album, 'Passion', which included the hit single 'When Rose Encounters Love', which reached the top 10 on the Hong Kong charts, and her second single, 'Wild Girl', which topped the charts, cementing her status as a popular female singer in the Hong Kong music scene.
