A couple, Winthrop and Isabel, have a bitter fight, and she sets sail on a voyage, leaving Winthrop to believe she's left him for good. He eventually divorces her, but still loves her. He finds comfort with Mary, whom he also falls for. When Isabel returns, she's unhappy about Winthrop's new relationship, as she's the original wife. Mary, however, decides to sacrifice her own happiness to keep the couple together, but ultimately changes her mind when she realizes Isabel is open to sharing her husband.
