In present-day Chad, a former swimming champion is forced to give up his job at a hotel to his son after new Chinese owners take over, leading to feelings of resentment and social humiliation. As the country descends into civil war, Adam is pressured by authorities to contribute to the war effort, but he is penniless and has only his son to offer.
