In the 1880 California frontier, novelist Robert Louis Stevenson arrives seeking inspiration from the rugged landscape and its inhabitants. He soon finds himself entangled in a thrilling tale of stagecoaches, highwaymen, and mining towns. A new stagecoach arrives in Silverado, driven by Bill Foss, who is challenged to a race by Zeke Butler, the stage driver for the established stage-line. However, the race takes a turn when Foss's coach is forced off the road and his horse is injured. As Foss takes a job hauling water to a desert wasteland, a mysterious bandit known as The Monk robs Zeke's gold shipment, and Foss becomes the prime suspect. To clear his name, Foss proposes a plan for both stages to transport the next gold shipment, and whoever gets robbed will be the true culprit.
