Americans Underground: Secret City of WWI

Uncovered beneath a farm field in Northern France lies a century-old secret: a vast underground city that served as a refuge for World War I soldiers from both sides, one of hundreds of hidden structures hidden beneath the surface.

An underground city was discovered beneath a farm field in Northern France, where World War I soldiers from both sides took refuge a century ago. One of hundreds of buried havens along the 45-mile Western Front, it was documented by American explorer and photographer Jeff Gusky. He attempted to connect the names of American soldiers etched into the limestone walls to their living descendants.
