Ema Berisha, a Kosovar journalist, stays in war-torn Kosovo as American journalists Laura and David Schwatz flee. She gives birth to a baby girl, Ana, after being raped by Serbian forces, but is abandoned by her husband and friends. Unable to care for Ana, Ema reluctantly puts her in an orphanage. Later, with the help of David, Doresa, and Komandant Shpati, Ema attempts to rescue her child from a monastery where children are being sold.
