Marie Curie, a brilliant and determined young woman, grows up in Poland where women are denied access to universities. Despite this, Marie learns Russian easily and accompanies her sister to the University of Warsaw, only to learn that all universities in Poland have been closed to women. Marie graduates at the top of her class and attends a secret university, eventually earning a master's degree in physics and mathematics from the Sorbonne University in Paris. There, she meets and marries Pierre Curie and becomes a top student, earning a doctorate and the Nobel Prize. After Pierre's death, Marie becomes the first woman professor at the Sorbonne, fulfilling a promise she made to her husband.
