A young elephant named Babar is orphaned when a hunter kills his mother. He escapes to a human city, where he's taken in by an elderly woman who teaches him human ways. Years later, his friends Celeste and Arthur find him, and they eventually return to the forest. Babar becomes king and decides to build an elephant city, adopting human customs and assigning tasks to each elephant. However, this new way of life brings its own set of problems.
