Lucy Ball, a talented actress, lands small roles in big-budget films and low-budget productions, while working for RKO Pictures in 1939. She meets charming Cuban singer Desi Arnaz on set and they fall in love. After marrying, they buy a house in Hollywood, with Desi's orchestra touring the country and Lucy's film career struggling. Lucy finds success in the radio show "My Favorite Husband", but only agrees to continue with CBS and Philip Morris if Desi plays her on-screen husband. The show is renamed "I Love Lucy" in 1953 and becomes a huge hit, but a newspaper article accuses Lucy of being a Communist, putting their careers and marriage at risk.
