A young man named Jeetu, struggling with debt and harassment from money-lenders, is forced to flee after a failed suicide attempt. He wakes up on a boat with two strangers, Gundya and Bundya, who believe he owes them a debt. Jeetu feigns deafness and muteness to avoid further trouble and is soon mortgaged to a wealthy man, Prabhart Singh, who makes him a servant boy in his Kolkata mansion. There, Jeetu meets Prabhart's daughter Meenakshi and niece Shruti, and falls in love with Shruti, who is also mute. As they prepare to marry, Jeetu's past comes back to haunt him.
