Zac Beaulieu, born on Christmas Day 1960, is the fourth of five sons to Gervais and Laurianne Beaulieu. He feels disconnected from his brothers, each with their unique personalities. Zac has a strained relationship with his second eldest brother, Raymond, a shiftless druggie. His mother, a devout Catholic, sees Zac as her miracle son, born on Jesus' birthday, and believes he has healing powers. Zac wants to please his father, who wants his sons to be masculine and not effeminate. As Zac navigates his teenage years to early twenties, he struggles to live up to his mother's and father's expectations, dealing with stress-induced asthma and repressed thoughts.
