A talented jazz musician overcomes humble beginnings to become a celebrated crooner.

Ted Taylor, a musician, uses a megaphone to amplify his soft voice, becoming an overnight sensation and landing a contract with nightclub owner Nick Meyer. As his popularity grows, publicity agent Peter Sturgis helps him secure better deals, including recording and radio appearances. However, Taylor's newfound fame goes to his head, and he begins to mistreat his bandmates and girlfriend Judy Mason. After being caught with a socialite, Judy dumps him, leading to a downward spiral of reckless behavior and eventually, a ruined reputation.
