A group of East Berliners risk everything to escape to the West, led by Harry Melchior, a former champion swimmer who's already faced imprisonment for his defiance against the system. He's driven to help his sister and her family escape, and the tunnel is born. However, the project faces numerous challenges, including logistical hurdles and betrayal from within their own ranks, all while the East German police close in on their plot.
