In the sun-kissed San Fernando Valley, 16-year-old Tobe lives with her dad and younger brother. She befriends Harlan, a charming gas station attendant from South Dakota, and they share a carefree day at the beach with her friends. As their bond grows, Tobe's father objects to their relationship, leading to a rebellion from Tobe. Meanwhile, Harlan believes Tobe is his soulmate and begins making plans to whisk her away from her father's disapproval.
